Gravel Driveway Installation & Grading in Campbellsville, KY
New gravel drives, garage approaches and farm lanes around Campbellsville, cut in, crowned and ditched so the water leaves and the stone stays where you paid to put it.
Why Loads of Gravel Keep Disappearing
If you have dumped stone on the same driveway three springs in a row, the stone is not the problem. Around Campbellsville the usual story is a drive that was never built, only graveled. Somebody spread rock over topsoil, on a route with no crown and no ditch. Rain runs down the wheel tracks, the clay under it turns to grease, and the gravel sinks or washes into the yard.
A gravel seller can bring you another load. Building the drive is a different job, and it is the one Pistol Ridge Land Services does. From our base in Finley, here in Taylor County and a short run from Campbellsville, Trey cuts the route with an excavator and tracked skid steers, strips the soft topsoil, shapes a crown and side ditches, lays a base of larger stone and tops it with a finer stone that packs tight.
You get a driveway that sheds water and carries a loaded truck in February as well as in July. The stone is part of the job, ordered for what your drive needs, so you are not guessing at tons. And if the drive leads to a new build, the same crew can handle the building pad and the approach to the garage or shop door.

What goes into a driveway we build
- Route cut and trees cleared
- Topsoil and soft clay stripped off
- Crown shaped so water sheds
- Side ditches cut to carry runoff
- Base stone placed and packed
- Top stone spread and graded smooth
Building Drives on Taylor County Clay
Clay over limestone, and what it does to a drive
Most Taylor County ground is clay over limestone. Clay holds water, and wet clay under gravel pumps up through the stone every time a tire rolls over it. That is why the topsoil and the soft clay come off first and the base goes on firm ground. On the ridges, limestone can sit close under the grass. A rock ledge makes a fine bed for a drive, but it can also decide where the ditch goes, so we look at the route before we promise a line.
Lake lots, in-town drives and farm lanes
Campbellsville gives us three kinds of driveway work. Out toward Green River Lake, homes and cabins sit at the end of long drives that climb out of steep hollows, and those wash if water is allowed to run down them. Closer to town it is new drives and garage approaches on building lots. On the farms around Saloma, Mannsville and Spurlington it is lanes to barns and back fields that have to carry a cattle trailer or a feed truck in wet weather.
Where the drive meets the road, and what is buried
Kentucky 811 has to be called at least two full working days before any digging so public utilities can be marked. Private lines, like a water line to a barn, are yours to point out. If the new drive ties into a state highway or a county road outside Campbellsville, the entrance, and any pipe under it, is a question for the state highway district office or the county road department. Check with them first. We build the drive and its ditches up to that entrance. For what moves the price, see our gravel driveway cost guide.

Campbellsville Gravel Driveways FAQ
Who installs gravel driveways near Campbellsville, KY?
Pistol Ridge Land Services does. We are based in Finley, in Taylor County, so Campbellsville is close by. Trey builds new gravel drives, garage approaches and farm lanes, and reshapes old ones that have washed or potholed. Call (270) 272-8739 and he will come look at the route.
Why does my gravel driveway in Taylor County keep washing out?
Almost always because water runs down the drive and not off it. A drive needs a crown in the middle and a ditch or low side to carry water away. Without them, every hard rain takes stone downhill. Adding gravel does not fix that. Reshaping the drive does.
Do you sell or deliver gravel in Campbellsville?
Not as a product. We are a driveway contractor, not a gravel yard. The stone for your drive comes as part of the job, in the sizes and amounts the drive needs, and we place and grade it. If all you need is a load dumped, a local quarry or stone seller is the call.
Can you build a gravel driveway up a steep hill near Green River Lake?
Usually, yes. Steep drives need more care: a firm base, a good crown and places for water to turn off the drive before it picks up speed. Sometimes the answer is a longer route with an easier climb. Trey walks the hill with you and tells you what will hold.
