Yard, Lot & Drainage Grading
Yards, slopes and drainage graded so water goes where it should and the ground is ready for whatever comes next.
Done Right the First Time
Water always wins. If the ground slopes toward your house, the water goes to your house, and no amount of gutter or sump pump fixes a yard that's graded wrong.
Pistol Ridge Land Services grades yards, lots and building sites across central Kentucky. We've regraded around brick homes, along foundations and behind apartment buildings where a full-size machine couldn't go, using tracked skid steers that work close without tearing things up.
The goal is always the same: move water away from the building, take out the low spots and leave a smooth surface ready for seed, sod, gravel or concrete.

Grading work we do
- Regrading yards that hold water
- Sloping ground away from foundations
- Final grade around new homes
- Rough grading for building sites
- Smoothing lots after demolition or clearing
- Spreading topsoil and fill dirt
Fixing drainage
Most drainage problems are grading problems. We look at where the water comes from and where it can go, then shape the ground so it gets there on its own. Sometimes that means a swale, and sometimes it's as simple as building up the grade along one wall.
Finish grade for new construction
Once the house is up and the trades are gone, the lot needs to be put back together. We backfill, grade around the foundation and leave it ready for the landscaper. It ties in with our excavation, pad and site prep work.

Grading FAQ
How much does yard grading cost?
It depends on the size of the area, how much dirt has to move and whether fill has to be brought in. We look at the yard and give you a quote.
Can grading fix water in my yard or against my foundation?
Very often. If water sits against the house or pools in the yard, reshaping the ground so it drains away is usually the real fix.
Can you work in a tight back yard?
Yes. Tracked skid steers and compact excavators get into places a full-size machine can't.
