Excavation in Central Kentucky

Done Right the First Time

Good excavation is the part of a project nobody sees once it's finished, and it's the part everything else sits on. Dig a footer too shallow, leave a soft spot under a slab or cut a ditch that holds water, and the problem shows up years later in a cracked wall or a wet yard.

Pistol Ridge Land Services handles excavation for homeowners, farmers and builders across central Kentucky. We run a full-size John Deere excavator for the heavy digging and compact machines for tight lots and work close to a house, so the machine fits the job instead of the other way around.

Central Kentucky ground keeps you honest. One site is deep red clay, and the next has limestone a foot under the grass. Thirty years of experience means knowing what the bucket is telling you and changing the plan before it turns into a problem.

What's Included

What our excavation work covers

  • Footer and foundation digs for homes, shops and additions
  • Basement and crawl space excavation
  • Ditches and drainage swales
  • Utility trenches for water and electric lines
  • Cut and fill to bring a site to rough grade
  • Digging out old concrete, stumps and buried debris

Residential, farm and commercial

Most of our excavation is for people building a home or shop, farmers who need ground moved, and contractors who need a dig crew they don't have to babysit. The same care goes into a small footer dig as a full site cut.

One call for the whole dirt side of the job

Excavation rarely stands alone. The same visit often covers demolition of what's in the way, site prep, the building pad and the trench for the water line. Keeping it with one crew means one schedule and nobody pointing fingers.

Questions

Excavation FAQ

How much does excavation cost?

It depends on how much dirt has to move, how deep, what's in the ground and how easy it is to get a machine in. Rock is the big wild card in central Kentucky. We look at the site, talk through what you need and give you a straight quote before any work starts.

Can you dig in rock?

Limestone is common here and we run into it often. How we handle it depends on how much there is and how hard it is. We'll tell you what we find and what your options are instead of surprising you with it later.

Do underground utilities get located first?

Yes. Kentucky law requires a call to Kentucky 811 before digging so public utilities can be marked. Private lines, such as power to a barn or a line to a well, are the owner's to point out, so tell us about anything you know is buried.

Do you work on small residential jobs?

Yes. We run compact excavators and tracked skid steers for exactly that: tight back yards, work close to a house and small digs that don't need a big machine.
